Kitchen Sink and Mixer Tap Installation in Bedford

The Brief

A kitchen in Bedford was being finished with a new island, and the sink needed plumbing into it. The homeowners had chosen an undermount composite bowl to sit under the worktop with the drainer grooves cut into the stone, along with a chrome swan neck mixer tap with two levers.

Because the sink was moving into the island rather than staying against a wall, the hot and cold supplies and the waste both needed running to the new position. They wanted it done in one visit so the kitchen could be used that evening.

What We Did

Our work included:

• Isolated the water: The supplies were turned off and drained back before anything was disconnected, so the rest of the house was not left without water any longer than necessary.
• Ran the new supply pipework: Hot and cold supplies run to the island and finished with isolating valves under the unit, so the tap can be worked on later without draining the kitchen.
• Fitted the undermount sink: The composite bowl was clamped and sealed to the underside of the worktop so the cut edge sits flush and the drainer grooves run into the bowl.
• Installed the mixer tap: The chrome swan neck mixer was seated through the worktop, pulled down square and connected with new flexible tails.
• New waste and trap: A new waste and trap fitted to the bowl and run back into the existing drainage, with the falls set so the sink empties properly rather than holding water.
• Leak tested and checked: The water was turned back on and every joint checked under pressure, with the tap run on hot and cold and the waste filled and emptied to confirm nothing was weeping.
• Cleared up: The worktop was wiped down, the cupboard left dry and clean, and the offcuts and packaging taken away with us.

The Result

A tidy, finished island sink: the bowl sits flush under the worktop, the tap clears the bowl properly when it swings, and the pipework and trap are neatly arranged in the cupboard where they can be reached. It was fitted, tested and back in use the same day.
